Semiotics
Semiotics is the study of signs, we read images and pictures in an attempt to decode them and make sense of what they mean to us.
Denotation: What we see when we look at it (What it is)
Connotation: What we understand from this image.
A mirror
Denotation- A mirror with a brown frame
Connotation- Things are are viewed in different ways and our reflection can reveal truths that we don't want to see
A black rose:
Denotation- A black rose with a black stem and thorns
Connotation- The colour of the rose suggests something dark and maybe even death
Wedding rings:
Denotation- Two silver wedding rings
Connotation- A symbol of eternal love
