Genre picture task

Genre

Every film has a genre, they appeal to different audiences. In shops they store films in genres for example there could be a comedy section, a horror section and a romance section.

Examples of genres are:

Romantic comedy

This photo went well as the colours stand out and give the impression to the audience that this will be an upbeat and happy film as the colours are bright; this is high-key lighting which is commonly used in positive films. The two interlocking hands is a represents a romantic gesture which tells the audience that the genre is romance. The close shot of the picture could imply that the film is going to focus on this couple's close relationship.

Comedy

This photo was not as successful as it could have been as it is not clear to the audience that the genre of this film is comedy. The high-key lighting in this photo makes the bright, yellow sign stand out to catch the audiences attention, as the character is laughing it represents that even though they may be in a dangerous situation of some sort, they are finding it comical which represents the comedy genre.

Horror

This photo was successful as the first impression the audience would get by looking at this photo would be that it is quite freaky and scary, the low-key lighting highlights the fact that it is a horror movie as the dark colours are used to represent the dark side of the film. The photo is initially of a bathroom mirror however the focus is then drawn to the girl in the reflection as she appears mysterious by  showing half of her face and body. The fact that the girl is dressed in black could suggest that death may be involved as black is commonly associated with death.

Action

This photo went well as it is representing an action movie by the character crawling on the floor which is suspicious as it isn't a common way to move unless someone is hiding from someone or they are hurt and can not stand. In the photo low-key lighting is used to create tension and suspense and the darkness from the bottom of the car contrasts with the light shinning on the character. The character's clothing is quite casual which suggests that she is just an ordinary girl in an unusual situation however the expression on her face implies that she is not surprised or shocked at all as she looks determined to do something. 

Science-fiction

This photograph would draw the attention of the appropriate audience as it is very unusual and slightly abnormal at first glance; the photo has been edited to show that one eye is different from the normal eye as there are two iris' looking in opposite directions. High-key lighting is used to illuminate the eye and give a lasting impression to the audience; the low-key lighting is used to show the silhouette of someone from the reflection of the eye, this creates and sense of mystery and would make the audience want to watch the film to find out what happened.
